When using PS3 with televison and set the RGB color-spectrum to limited range in the display options on the PS3. On the tv, with the setting on full it would be far too dark and black out way too much shadow detail. On this projector you can turn on full-range and make use of the entire spectrum and it will give you better blacks and whites this way. If you put this projector on the bright pre-set setting (not high lamp mode) then you can blind yourself by the whites this thing is capable of in the dark. Bright setting should really only be used when you have a lot of ambient light to fight with. Otherwise the Cinema, Reference, or your own custom settings with the help of a calibration disc is probably best.
Here’s what one of the owners had to say about the Optoma HD20 High Definition 1080p:
The picture out of the box is OK. However, once projected on a gray projection screen to increase contrast (not white) and some minor color adjustments this projector comes to live when playing blue ray disks. Perfect picture !! (G.Senger)

Here’s what one of the owners had to say about the ViewSonic PJD6531w:
It’s very easy to use. I’ve never operated one before and was able to use it right out of the box. Plugged it in, connected my ps3 or laptop, and turn it on. It automatically detects everything without issue.
The image can get quite large. So far I’ve been using it to generate an image about 8 ft wide with a good picture. The projector is 14ft away from the wall. Definitely much larger than any LCD or Plasma! (Russell D. Holloway )
Mitsubishi HC3800 Review
Available on Amazon for $1,295.00 here.
1080p DLP Home Theater Projector, 1300 ANSI, 6 seg. Color Wheel, 4000:1 contrast ratio, 7.9 lbs., HDMI input (v 1.3)
Some of this merits explaining. Sports gamma is the brightest of the three available gamma curves. Unlike the same mode on other projectors, it has very little green push. It’s also good about adding definition to the blacks without messing with the black point. I compensated for the green with a slight tint adjustment.

Here are some great features of the Mitsubishi HC3800:
- Home Theater DLP Projector 1080p
- High Quality Glass Lens
- 1300 ANSI Lumens
- 4000:1 Contrast Ratio
The three most important specifications of any projector are lumen output, ANSI contrast, and absolute black levels. Lumen output dictates how well the projector will handle ambient light and large screen sizes without washing out or becoming uncomfortably dim.
ANSI contrast measures dynamic range, or the brightest and darkest colors the projector can display at the same time. The ‘punch’ of a picture with bright lights and dark shadows is heavily dependent on ANSI contrast. Lower ANSI numbers imply a flatter image with grayer blacks.
Finally, low absolute black levels ensure that in completely dark scenes, black appears black and not a dark slate.
Here’s what one of the owners had to say about the Mitsubishi HC3800:
I purchased this to replace an Infocus X1 when the bulb burnt out. I was looking at the Mitsubishi HC3800 and the Epson PowerLite Home Cinema 8100. It was a hard decision to make. I decided to go with the DLP over the LCD since I had such great luck with the Infocus DLP.(Buddy Davis)

For the price this thing can’t be beat. I’m using it for video editing and it’s awesome. Watch blueray on it as well and it’s like being at the theater (with the 5.1 as well).
There are times when it runs all day and I haven’t has a single problem. (EricH)

Here are some great features of the Epson PowerLite Home Cinema 8350 :
• Sharp, crystal-clear detail
• High-definition, 1080p home theater experience
• Stunning picture uniformity and positioning flexibility
• Smooth gradations
• Cutting-edge connectivity
• Dimensions (W x D x H)
In conclusion, the Epson 8350 can be thought of as a tweaked “next year’s model” of the 8100. Since the 8100 got the core features right, not much improvement was needed. Epson apparently controlled the inventory of the 8100s pretty well. After the 8350 was released, I looked for blow-out deals on the 8100 and didn’t find any. You can pay just as much for the outgoing 8100 as the 8350. You might as well get the newer model.
Here’s what one of the owners had to say about the Epson PowerLite Home Cinema 8350:
It is just amazing. Picture is clean, sharp, and bright. Brightness was my big complaint with my last projector and surely, not with this one. I’ve watched a few blu ray movies and it looks awesome. Few key points, price is good, great picture, bright, and super quite. Also lense shift makes it easy to get everything centered if it is off a little bit. The only thing I noticed with it that surprised me was how much bigger and heavier it was then my last projector, but not a big deal. All in all, excellent projector, especially for the money.( Bob )
